Doctors explained the dangers of a low-fat diet: “fat is essential for brain and heart health”

Doctors have warned that a diet that does not contain the required amount of fat is harmful to the human body.

Many people are afraid of fat, considering it a product that increases cholesterol levels and causes heart disease. But doctors warn that you should not be too zealous in eliminating fat from your daily diet. A strict low-fat diet is harmful, since fat in a certain amount is physiologically necessary for the normal functioning of the body along with proteins and carbohydrates, experts say.

“Excluding fats from the diet is complete recklessness,” the candidate said on this occasion medical sciences, therapist Irina Baranova.
The doctor said on Telegram that the daily menu should include foods that are a healthy source of fat, in the form of fish, flaxseed oil and other vegetable oils, walnuts and a variety of seeds. Baranova emphasized that many processes in the body cannot be carried out properly without obtaining fat.

“Fat maintains the fluidity of bile, participates in the synthesis of hormones, and optimizes metabolism,” the doctor explained.
The doctor drew attention to the fact that dangerous types of fatty foods include primarily products containing trans fats in the form of semi-finished products, fast food, margarine, store-bought baked goods, and industrial desserts. Their constant presence in the diet is closely related to susceptibility to cardiovascular diseases and malignant tumors.

In turn, cardiologist Olga Bockeria stated that low-fat nutrition is harmful to the brain. According to the specialist, a lack of healthy fats in the diet (primarily omega-3 unsaturated fatty acids) is associated with a higher risk of developing negative age-related pathologies, such as dementia and cognitive decline.

“High quality fats are necessary for health of the brain, heart, blood vessels,” the doctor postulated.
Another expert, endocrinologist Zukhra Pavlova recommended avoiding purchasing low-fat products – especially if by their nature they should be fatty. She noted that from dairy products that are skimmed by the manufacturer, the body cannot absorb the calcium it needs. In addition, when defatting, products lose their taste properties and numerous additives are used to enhance them, the use of which is completely undesirable.
