According to dietitian Elena Solomatina, elderly people in the absence contraindications, it is useful to use halvah in moderation. This delicacy can be made from different grains and seeds, but at the same time, halva invariably contains fiber, which positively affects the state of the intestinal microflora.

“It doesn’t matter what kind of halva, sunflower, peanut, sesame, flaxseed or almond – this product contains fiber, which helps to feed beneficial bacteria in the intestines of older people and improves its functioning,” said doctor Solomatina, talking to Moscow 24.
The doctor also spoke about the content of components useful for the elderly in various kinds of halva.

Sunflower. It contains a lot of vitamin E, which is also called the “vitamin of youth.” Thanks to this antioxidant, skin condition improves, the risk of cardiovascular pathologies decreases.

Peanut. It is a source of silicon, which is useful in old age for maintaining bones, teeth, tendons and cartilage.

Sesame. Contains a lot of calcium, a trace element that plays an important role in processes of transmission of nerve impulses, regulation of blood pressure, blood coagulation.

Almond. Such halva gives the body magnesium necessary for the cardiovascular system.
