Doctor Kashuh: instead of fasting, it is better to use a healthy approach to nutrition

Gastroenterologist Ekaterina Kashukh: can fasting be beneficial for the body?

Doctor Kashukh, in a conversation with RIA Novosti, discussed whether fasting has positive effects or therapeutic effect. The doctor drew attention to the data obtained by foreign scientists (Queen Mary University of London).

“Experts have concluded that refusing to eat changes the protein profile to some extent. Presumably, this is beneficial for the cardiovascular system and joints in rheumatoid arthritis,” stated Kaschuh.
The doctor added that from people who consider refusing food useful, you can hear about its ability to trigger the process of autophagy (self-destruction) in defective or malignant cells. This conclusion was once reached by the scientist Nobel laureate Yoshinori Ohsumi. Ekaterina Kashukh emphasized that Osumi conducted his experiments on baker's yeast and his data should not be applied to the human body.

The doctor stated: today there is no significant scientific evidence of the usefulness of the practice of fasting or intermittent fasting for human health. Nowhere in the world is there such an official medical recommendation as the need to refuse food.

“Professional communities of nutritionists from different countries are unanimous: there is no point in fasting. Even with severe diseases of the digestive system, they prefer to introduce nutrition as early as possible,” the specialist shared.
Doctor Kashuh is convinced that instead of fasting, it is better to use a healthy approach to nutrition – it is much more correct and beneficial for the body. The idea of refusing food is an extreme that increases the risk of breakdowns, overeating and the development of an eating disorder, the gastroenterologist admits.

The MedikForum.ru portal previously wrote that knowledge of the chemical composition of foods helps in the fight against obesity, this was reported Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, nutritionist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Viktor Tutelyan.
