Doctor Arzamastsev: seeds are useful for older people as a source of magnesium and protein

Dietitian Evgeniy Arzamastsev: magnesium in seeds has a good effect on the cardiovascular system of older people.

Sunflower seeds can be beneficial for elderly people as a source of important and often missing nutrients for their age. In particular, they provide the body with magnesium, which is also important for good intestinal motility.

“Magnesium improves the functioning of the cardiovascular system, nerve cells, nervous tissue, protects it from overload,” the expert informed in a commentary “Moscow 24.”
Seeds are also a source of protein, added Arzamastsev. They cannot seriously compete with protein products of animal origin, but as a product that provides an additional portion of high-quality vegetable protein, seeds are certainly useful, the doctor said.

Another advantage of seeds is the fats they contain. Being natural plant oils, they help the body function better. For example, with their adequate consumption, the functions of the liver and cardiovascular system can improve, the specialist suggested.

The portal previously wrote that meat and dairy products are useful for maintaining brain function.
