General practitioner Igor Alentov: vitamin D is the only one most people need almost all year.

Doctor Alentov informed:

“The only vitamin that most people need extra at any time of year is vitamin D.”
The specialist said that this vitamin is produced in the skin when it is exposed to sunlight. Therefore, doctors recommend that patients in autumn and winter spend more time in the fresh air and take walks, leaving their face and hands open – this helps the body synthesize the substance it needs. Alentov noted that most Russians experience a lack of vitamin D during the cold season, when the amount of sun decreases. Many people lack it throughout the year due to the overall low number of sunny days.

“Most people do not need to check their vitamin D levels. It is enough to take it prophylactically, checking the required dose with a doctor – it may differ depending on age and concomitant diseases,” the doctor shared his advice in an interview with Izvestia.
Alentov added that a high-quality source of vitamin D for the body can be animal food: fish, caviar, egg yolks, milk. The specialist does not recommend taking vitamin D in the form of dietary supplements. According to him, if necessary, competent doctors prescribe medications with this vitamin to patients.
