“Sudden shortness of breath”: Doctor Smirnova named the signs of a detached blood clot

Phlebologist Elena Smirnova explained which blood clots are the most dangerous.

Doctor Smirnova recalled that when a blood clot breaks off, a person is at risk of embolism – blockage of an artery by this blood clot. If the artery of a vital organ, the heart or lungs, is blocked, there is a risk of death.

“If the head of the blood clot is not fixed to the wall, such a blood clot is called floating. It is the most dangerous one, because it can break off and end up in the pulmonary artery,” the doctor warned in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
Doctor Smirnova named the signs of a broken off blood clot. According to her, one of the first signals of this is sudden shortness of breath.

“The first signs of a detached blood clot are sudden shortness of breath, which increases with physical exertion, a feeling of lack of air, chest pain when breathing, and streaks of blood in the sputum,” the expert listed.
Also, the doctor noted, when a blood clot detaches, tachycardia occurs – a rapid heartbeat.

Smirnova added that blood clots most often form in the veins of the legs, located both superficially and deeply. If thrombosis of the superficial veins occurs, it usually manifests itself as pain, reddening of the skin over the thrombosed vein, and swelling in this area. In the case of deep vein thrombosis, there is a bursting pain in the shin and pain when walking (subsiding during a stop), and swelling of one leg occurs. In addition, body temperature may rise. The phlebologist emphasized that if such symptoms occur, you should consult a doctor without delay.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote about why a person's legs can be constantly cold.
