Gastroenterologist Tatyana Zharovskaya: the problem of high cholesterol is closely related to the large amount of carbohydrates in the daily menu.

Doctor Zharovskaya noted in an interview that high cholesterol levels in people today are often the result of a diet rich in carbohydrates. To normalize its content in the blood, it is necessary to adjust the diet, eat the right foods, control the amount of sugar, salt and saturated fats.

Zharovskaya said that she lowers cholesterol without medication. The doctor stated: first of all, to do this, you need to include as many non-starchy vegetables and greens in your diet as possible.

“You need to eat at least 400 grams of fresh vegetables and greens daily, but no more than 150-200 grams of berries and fruits. These products contain soluble dietary fiber that binds excess fatty acids,” the doctor explained in a comment to Sputnik radio.
Speaking about products with saturated fats, the expert clarified: it is better to eat no more than one egg per day, and eat red meat a maximum of twice a week. Poultry and fish are allowed on the menu every day, but without the skin.

Among the products that help lower cholesterol without medication, the gastroenterologist named bread.

“Whole grain products, whole grain or rye bread help to reduce cholesterol.”
As for fruits and berries, the doctor advised eating those that are not too sweet or sour: for example, green apples, citrus fruits, cranberries, lingonberries

The expert added that to normalize cholesterol levels, the menu should also include foods with polyunsaturated fatty acids and B vitamins – offal, fatty fish, vegetable oils, walnuts, legumes.
