Psychologist Dugentsova: loneliness can affect susceptibility to disease

Psychologist Daria Dugentsova: prolonged loneliness and social isolation contribute to weakening of the immune system.

Psychologist Dugentsova said that it was protracted. Loneliness may influence susceptibility to illness by reducing dopamine production. It is also called the “hormone of joy or happiness” – this substance has a specific effect on intellectual activity and psychological health. In lonely people, the production of dopamine is reduced.

“A person receives the “happiness hormone” when he communicates with friends and family. If a person is constantly alone (especially if he is constantly in the same room), less of this hormone is produced,” Dugentsova said in a comment to NEWS.ru.
The psychologist noted that a decrease in dopamine levels leads to the fact that the body begins to work differently, and therefore a deterioration of immunity may occur. Stress due to loneliness increases blood pressure and various other pathological conditions, making people susceptible to heart disease and dementia. Scientists have noticed that people who live alone for a long time have increased levels of inflammatory markers in their blood, which often becomes a trigger for a particular disease.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that lonely people expose themselves to high risk of developing diabetes.
