Ophthalmologist Svetlana Demidova: flashing floaters before the eyes can be an age-related phenomenon or arise due to health problems.
Floaters are usually called dark spots appearing in the field of vision – they can flicker, float, oscillate or be in a static position. Speaking about the reasons for their appearance, doctor Demidova noted in an interview with AiF:
“Floaters before the eyes can be a sign of certain health problems.”
Svetlana Demidova drew attention to the fact that such an effect is often associated with age-related changes in the condition of the visual organs. The specialist clarified that with aging, the vitreous body of the eye, which is a jelly-like substance located between the lens and the retina, changes. Fragments appear in it that cast shadows on the retina of the eyes, appearing as spots in the field of vision.
“Sometimes floaters signal serious health problems, such as retinal detachment, vitreous hemorrhage and even retinal rupture,” the ophthalmologist warned.
Also, Demidova added, spots in front of the eyes, mistaken for floaters, occur due to blows to the head , its injuries, inflammatory processes.
In addition, the appearance of floaters can be influenced by high blood pressure, high blood sugar levels, and existing myopia.
Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that poor memory can be a manifestation of hypertension or diabetes.
