Oncologist Olkin: giving up five bad habits most effectively reduces the risk of cancer

Oncologist Dmitry Olkin: thanks to a healthy lifestyle, the immune system more effectively eliminates damage that leads to the development of tumors.

A recent study by American scientists found that changing lifestyles towards healthier ones helps prevent almost 40 percent of all cancer cases. Judging by the findings of the researchers, giving up five bad habits most effectively reduces the risk of cancer. Quitting smoking is especially important in terms of protection against cancer. People who decide to quit smoking reduce their risk of developing cancer of the lungs, bronchial tubes, larynx, esophagus, and bladder.

Another bad habit associated with cancer risk is lack of weight control. Obesity contributes to the development of uterine cancer in women, as well as cancer of the gallbladder, liver, and kidneys.

The next carcinogenic factor in people's lifestyle is alcohol abuse, which provokes the development of cancer of the oral cavity, pharynx, liver, and breast.

Also the cause of malignant tumors can be the habit of sunbathing and not protecting the skin from exposure to ultraviolet radiation. The most dangerous consequence of this is skin cancer.

Another bad habit is inactivity. Lack of physical activity also increases the likelihood of suffering from cancer of the stomach, uterine body, esophagus, and kidneys.

Oncologist Olkin, commenting on these data, emphasized: people who lead a healthy lifestyle develop cancer much less often. According to the doctor, in this case, the body's immune system more effectively detects and destroys malignant cells, preventing them from accumulating uncontrollably, forming tumors.

“Quitting smoking, eating right, and being physically active really play a huge role in protecting against cancer. These healthy lifestyle elements prevent other diseases that provoke the development of tumors. For example, a sedentary lifestyle and unhealthy diet lead to obesity. It creates the basis for inflammatory processes that increase cancer risks,” the oncologist stated in an interview with KP.
Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that the cause of cancer can be daily consumption of any type of alcohol, physiologist Alexander Sozykin spoke about this in more detail.
