“Lack of testosterone”: surgeon Umnov spoke about the causes of alopecia in women by the age of 50

Surgeon Alexander Umnov: women can begin to lose hair intensively by the age of 45–50.

Surgeon Umnov said that the key cause of alopecia in women, which occurs by the age of 50, is a lack of testosterone, which is closely related to the lack of hydrotestosterone, which affects hair growth. The specialist noted that the concentration of testosterone in the female body is initially low – 15 times less than in men. When the hormone level decreases even more due to age-related changes, it disrupts the formation of new hair follicles.

“Viral, bacterial, and fungal chronic diseases can also contribute to a decrease in testosterone production in women. The main thing when alopecia occurs is to contact a specialist in time and prescribe the right treatment,” the expert said in a comment to NEWS.ru.
A lack of B vitamins and microelements can also be the cause of female alopecia, added Alexander Umnov. He drew attention to the fact that the thickness and lushness of women's hair correlates with whether they receive enough iron, zinc, manganese, and fluorine

In addition, female baldness is promoted by a disruption of the blood supply to the scalp and follicles. In particular, it can occur due to constant pulling the hair into a hairstyle or treating it with chemical compounds, as well as regular heating of the hair with styling devices.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that with increased hair loss, the condition of the thyroid gland should be checked – this problem is often caused by problems in its functioning.
