Therapist Anastasia Agaeva: insect bites can be extremely dangerous for humans, causing anaphylactic shock.

Doctor Agaeva recalled in an interview that the human body reacts in one way or another to toxins that enter it through insect and arthropod bites. The external manifestations of its reactions depend on various factors – for example, on the amount of toxin that has entered the blood and the body's sensitivity to it, which is usually determined by individual characteristics. Different people can react differently to the bite of one insect.

Doctor Agaeva spoke about the dangerous reactions of the body to insect bites

“People with a hypersensitive immune system may experience allergic reactions; in the most severe cases, bites can cause anaphylactic shock. The likelihood of its development increases if a person has ever experienced an allergy to bites,” the therapist shared with Lenta.ru.
Agaeva specified that a sharp deterioration in health after a bite requires urgent medical attention. In particular, it becomes difficult to breathe, nausea, disorientation, and loss of consciousness occur.

“People who know about their reactions to bites should have a first aid kit with them containing the drug previously recommended by the doctor for such cases,” the expert emphasized.
What is anaphylactic shock? This is a severe allergic reaction of the body with the development of Quincke's edema, in which the larynx swells, suffocation occurs, blood pressure and the activity of the cardiovascular system as a whole decrease. It is impossible to conduct tests in advance and understand which allergen can cause such a reaction. A drug-autoinjector containing a “cube” of adrenaline, which almost instantly removes the pathological reaction, can save the life of a person with anaphylactic shock.

What to do if bitten by an insect. According to Agaeva, in this case, you need to monitor the symptoms and not scratch the bite.

“It is recommended to wash the bite with soapy water, apply ice through a cloth. You can use special ointments or creams to reduce itching, as well as antihistamines internally. If there is pain at the site of the bite, you can use painkillers.”
