Omega-3 fatty acids are thought to reduce the risk of heart disease, but taking supplements with them can cause arrhythmia as a side effect. Doctors warn that taking omega-3 supplements may cause dangerous heart rhythm problems

“Supplements with omega-3 increase the risk of heart rhythm disturbances in healthy people, and especially in people with certain factors,” therapist Nadezhda Podkorytova told the portal 74.ru.
The doctor explained that the certain factors mentioned are high levels lipids in the blood, existing allergies to fish, disorders of the thyroid gland, stones in the bladder and kidneys.

In turn, Candidate of Medical Sciences Ekaterina Kashuk noted that people taking omega-3 supplements may experience atrial fibrillation (atrial fibrillation). The consequences of this type of arrhythmia can be blood clots and disorders, which seriously increase the risk of stroke and cardiac arrest.

The doctor stated that omega-3s are beneficial for the human body only if consumed as part of food. In this case, they reduce the level of bad cholesterol and, along with it, the risk of the formation of cholesterol plaques, and also improve blood fluidity, preventing thickening and the formation of blood clots.

Which foods are considered the best sources of omega-3: fatty fish, liver, beans , walnuts, flax seeds, olive oil, sesame seeds.

The MedikForum.ru portal previously wrote that consuming sugar can have a positive effect on brain function.
