Doctor Zvonkov: heatstroke can cause death

heat stroke
Resuscitation doctor Andrey Zvonkov: without timely assistance, heat stroke can cause death.

One of the dangers that people are exposed to in hot weather is overheating, which contributes to the occurrence of heat stroke. You can get such heat stroke by staying in the sun for a long time or being in a poorly ventilated room that is heated by the sun, or in another hot and heated environment with an insufficient supply of fresh air (for example, in a bathhouse).

Doctor Zvonkov warned that heatstroke can cause death – this risk arises if the body heats up to a critical temperature. In this state, thickening of the blood occurs, which “cooks” and sticks together into clots.

“There is a certain temperature point after which the body stops producing enzymes. And at temperatures above 40 degrees, proteins begin to break down. Then thrombosis begins to develop, the person loses consciousness and falls into a coma. Heat stroke is almost certain death if you don’t get help in time,” Zvonkov told AiF.
How to understand that heat stroke has occurred.Weakness, lightheadedness, fainting, disorientation, pallor, confusion occur.

How to help a person with heat stroke?

  • Move to a cooler place, shade;
  • Cool by pouring water (but not ice);
  • First of all and most abundantly, you need to pour over the head and torso, then the arms and legs;
  • Call an ambulance.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that in case of heatstroke you need to place your legs above head level, this and other advice was shared by Doctor of Medical Sciences Alexey Umryukhin.
