Doctor Natalia Tananakina said that nutritional correction and physical activity are very effective measures to help avoid the development of type 2 diabetes.

Endocrinologist Tananakina said in an interview that the occurrence of type 1 diabetes is often caused by heredity – it is almost impossible to prevent this process. At the same time, with such diabetes, it is of great importance how disciplined a person is and to what extent he follows the doctor’s recommendations.

As for type 2 diabetes, its development, which usually occurs in adulthood, is closely related to behavior and the habits of the person himself, this is primarily a “lifestyle disease.” Doctor Tananakina said that lifestyle changes almost always help avoid type 2 diabetes

“You can almost always avoid the development of this disease by adjusting your diet, increasing physical activity, and giving up bad habits,” the endocrinologist shared with Gazeta.ru.
One of the key conditions for the prevention of type 2 diabetes or remission when it appears is normalization body weight, the doctor emphasized.

“It is advisable to achieve optimal weight and maintain it.”
In addition, it is important in general to be a mobile, physically active person – regularly take walks in the fresh air, walk more, do exercises, get up from a chair more often, do house cleaning and household chores.

It is better to cook food yourself. The diet should contain as little simple carbohydrates and saturated fat as possible.

Adults (especially those with pre-existing conditions for developing diabetes) should check their blood sugar levels on an empty stomach and after meals.

Previously MedikForum portal .ru wrote that some unsweetened foods can sharply increase blood sugar levels.
