Aspirin, popular among Russians, belongs to anticoagulants – drugs that thin the blood and prevent thrombosis. Doctor George Sapego said that such drugs have a reputation for being effective preventive agents when it comes to the risks of ischemic stroke. This type of stroke is characterized by the cessation of the normal blood supply to the brain, which occurs due to blockage of the vessel by a thrombus.
At the same time, doctor Sapego noted that although aspirin is used to prevent ischemic stroke of the brain, its thoughtless use can provoke the development of a hemorrhagic stroke, in which a vessel ruptures with subsequent hemorrhage. Hemorrhagic stroke is the most dangerous type of cerebral apoplexy due to the high probability of death.
“Aspirin is more likely to get a cerebral hemorrhage than to wait for benefits. But our people swallow aspirin with or without reason. And no one is afraid of the risk of cerebral hemorrhage, ”the doctor shared on his blog on Zen.
Also, added George Sapego, aspirin can become a provocateur of various internal hemorrhages. In particular, gastric (for example, with an existing ulcer).
