Doctor Romanenko recalled that Increased heart rate can be caused by stressful events, increased physical activity, and caffeine consumption. In these circumstances, the arrhythmia that has arisen is quite natural; it does not pose a danger to human health.

If a rapid heartbeat occurs during a resting state – for example, when a person is lying down or sleeping, resting – such a change in heart rate is most likely caused by a pathological cause, the doctor warned.

Doctor Romanenko clarified that a rapid heartbeat at rest is possible due to illness thyroid gland.

“One of the reasons for rapid heartbeat is hyperfunction of the thyroid gland, that is, hyperthyroidism,” she shared with Moscow 24.
In addition, such tachycardia, which a person unexpectedly feels in a relaxed state, may indicate an organic pathology of the heart, the therapist added. The specialist advised not to ignore such a change in heart rhythm, contact a doctor, get examined.

Romanenko named elevated body temperature and taking medications as other common causes of rapid heartbeat at rest.
