Doctor Gennady Novik reminded about the seriousness and potential danger of such a disease as bronchial asthma.

Allergist-immunologist Gennady Novik told Rossiyskaya Gazeta how to distinguish bronchial asthma from a common cough. The doctor emphasized that asthma can significantly reduce a person's quality of life, and with certain complications or improper treatment, even threaten it.

“Asthma is especially dangerous for children, since they cannot always adequately assess their condition and take the necessary measures.”
According to Novik, parents do not always go to the doctor when they notice asthma symptoms in their child. This disease can manifest itself in children in different ways depending on age.

The doctor named the main symptoms of asthma:

  • Cough;
  • Asthma attacks;
  • Feeling of congestion in the chest;
  • “Whistling” breathing.

How to distinguish bronchial asthma from a common cough?The doctor explained that asthma can cause uncontrollable coughing, which can be triggered by contact with allergens, a viral infection, or physical activity. Novik advised monitoring the child's condition after physical activity. If a cough or wheezing appears, you need to see a doctor. The expert emphasized that today there are means that allow most patients to successfully control asthma.
