Doctor Kaloshina: Men have a hard time tolerating even a slight increase in temperature due to hormones

Endocrinologist Maria Kaloshina says that it is harder for the male body to tolerate temperature than for the female body due to different hormone levels.

Doctor Kaloshina said that men “give in” even at a slightly elevated temperature, and they really do not tolerate any heat very well. This feature of the male body is a consequence of its hormonal nature. In women, the ratio of estrogen and testosterone is such that they cope more quickly with the ailments characteristic of seasonal infections.

“Men have a harder time withstanding fever than women because of different hormone levels. Women have high levels of estrogen and progesterone and low levels of testosterone. Because of this combination, women tolerate illnesses much more easily, their symptoms are milder and go away faster,” the doctor explained to the Public News Service.
According to Kaloshina, the so-called immune response is associated with the peculiarities of the hormonal background – the body's reaction to pathogens, pathogens, including acute respiratory viral infections. In women, in the presence of a high concentration of the hormone estrogen, it reacts faster to their invasion, activating the processes of reproduction of immunocompetent cells – as a result, it fights viruses and bacteria more effectively. As for the male hormone testosterone, it has the property of suppressing the immune response, due to which its protective functions weaken. Therefore, the discomfort that occurs during the disease is more difficult for men to bear, even if from the outside it does not seem significant.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that people's health in the fall largely depends on whether their body receives vitamin D.
