Dermatologist Tatyana Egorova: the effect of sweat on the skin can aggravate or cause its defects.

Dermatologist Egorova warned Russians: profuse sweat in the heat can be dangerous for the condition of the skin.

“First of all, and this is the main thing, due to excess sweat, prickly heat can develop on the skin. Many people think that this is a relatively safe problem. “In reality, this is not the case,” the doctor emphasized in a comment to aif.ru.
Tatyana Egorova reminded that prickly heat (small papular red rash) is an allergic reaction of the body to its own sweat. It occurs due to blockage of the ducts of the eccrine glands, which in turn can be provoked by various factors: heat, patches or bandages on the skin, physical activity, taking certain medications, obesity.

“From the point of view of the infectious component, prickly heat due to sweat can be caused by staphylococci. Normally, such pathogens live on the skin, but under the influence of triggers they begin to multiply too actively. In addition, they secrete a sticky substance that supplements excess sweat and dead cells, which blocks the sweat glands,” the dermatologist added.
When prickly heat occurs, many people start scratching themselves. It is dangerous to do this. Scratching prickly heat can contribute to bacterial activity on the skin and the development of inflammatory processes. Egorova drew attention to the fact that profuse sweat in the heat, getting on areas of skin defects, makes them irritated and wet. Without special treatment, a secondary infection with suppuration can occur on them. Sweat itself does not cause serious infections, but pathogenic agents can join against its background, the doctor emphasized.
