“Hot chocolate and mulled wine are two obvious examples. High-sugar hot chocolate can increase the risk of heart disease and high cholesterol. Meanwhile, mulled wine may increase the risk of future liver problems if consumed in in excess. However, it is not these hot drinks that are causing concern for researchers,” gastroenterologist Alexandra Alisova says especially for MedikForum.
