An Israeli study helped answer the question of where different variants of COVID-19 come from. In patients with a weakened immune system, the coronavirus in the body strongly mutates.
Although the coronavirus infection is much less deadly now than in the first year and a half of the pandemic, the virus still continues to hit scientists with a huge number of mutations. Their number far exceeds the figure that was observed initially. So where are all these options coming from, and what is fueling the coronavirus modifications? The answer to this question was received by scientists from the University of Tel Aviv.
Scientists have not figured out where the drugs in wastewater come from
They found that patients with weakened immune systems due to chronic diseases, and those taking medications that reduce a person's ability to fight various harmful pathogens, have an increased risk of chronic infections. And it is in their bodies that quite severe variants of the coronavirus with a high degree of mutations develop. Although this is not very pleasant news, it still has its advantages. Since many different variants are formed in the body of patients with a compromised immune system, these same mutations are much less likely to affect others.

Typically, a coronavirus infection resolves on its own in a few days, while changes in RNA can last from several days to several weeks. But scientists are getting more and more reports that chronic covid infections can last for weeks and even months. They should not be confused with post-COVID syndrome, in which the virus itself quickly disappears from the body, but its symptoms remain. In the case of chronic infections, the replication of the virus in the body continues, that is, it is a covid that does not leave the body for several weeks or months.
