Toxicologist, professor Mikhail Kutushov spoke about the benefits of chickpeas. Dishes from it normalize blood pressure.

— Dishes from chickpeas reduce the sodium content in the body, which leads to the normalization of blood pressure. This property is most valuable for women who lose estrogen during menopause, which leads to arterial hypertension, — the doctor noted in his blog.

What else is useful in chickpeas?

It contains plant fiber, which helps regulate the activity of the gastrointestinal tract. Regular bowel movements are established, constipation goes away.

Vitamins and minerals in chickpeas reduce the level of “bad” cholesterol in the blood, supporting the work of the heart.

Chickpeas contain prebiotic fibers that feed the “good” bacteria in the intestines. Microorganisms use prebiotics from hummus, which protects the body from pathogens.

A specialist gave a recipe for homemade hummus:

  • Soak chickpeas in cold water overnight for a day or overnight.
  • In the same water, cook the chickpeas over low heat for 2 hours until soft.
  • Drain the liquid, leaving one glass (useful when you beat).
  • Add olive oil to the chickpeas and blend.
  • Add tahini, lemon juice, paprika, cumin and blend again.

Chickpeas are an excellent source of plant-based protein, making them popular among vegetarians and vegans. Chickpeas also have a low glycemic index, which helps control blood sugar levels and may be beneficial for people with diabetes.

Note that eating chickpeas can cause flatulence and abdominal discomfort due to the high fiber and oligosaccharide content. Some people are allergic to legumes, including chickpeas. In addition, chickpeas contain antinutrients such as phytates, which can interfere with the absorption of some minerals. Therefore, they need to be soaked for a long time.
