Every day we listen more carefully to the words of infectious disease experts, waiting to hear the news about the end of the pandemic. However, infectious disease specialist Georgy Sapronov believes that it may take several more years before this status is removed.
Currently, a number of countries are experiencing new outbreaks of coronavirus infections. In the US, daily numbers reached 200,000, in the UK – up to 150,000. In Russian private laboratories, the level of positive PCR tests for coronavirus jumped several times, the official figures for the number of cases and even hospitalizations are gradually increasing. This means that the fifth wave of coronavirus is slowly rolling over us.

It may be followed by the sixth, seventh and even eighth waves, since there is no need to talk about the end of the pandemic yet, as Georgy Sapronov said. Unfortunately, more than half of humanity, at least officially, has not been ill with coronavirus and has not been vaccinated. And this despite the fact that the number of victims of the disease is already about 6.5 million people. Consequently, the coronavirus will continue to torment mankind until it passes into the category of seasonal colds.
Experts say how long the coronavirus pandemic can last
This could happen after the most infectious and aggressive version of the coronavirus is born. The paradox of these infections is that the more aggressive they are in terms of contagiousness, the less severity of symptoms they cause. The virus itself is a living organism, it is not interested in destroying its carrier, that is, a person.
