The capacity of domestic raw material suppliers allows us to cover the needs of the medical industry
The medical industry is one of the key sectors of the country's economy. It provides the population with the necessary medicines, medical equipment and other goods to maintain health. The development of the medical industry in the context of the tasks of key national projects was discussed at the BIOTECHMED 2024 forum.

The Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov spoke about the implementation of the industrial block of the national project “New technologies for preserving health”. According to him, it is important to orient manufacturers of medicines and medical devices to new breakthrough areas. At the same time, the minister emphasized that attention should be paid to providing the pharmaceutical and medical industries with raw materials and materials.

– The pharmaceutical industry has already achieved a lot in increasing the production of its own pharmaceutical substances; we can already produce about 45 percent of all INNs with them. This figure needs to be increased, and there is still a lot of work ahead in terms of raw material supply. In terms of medical devices, there is even more work to be done in terms of localization, given the range of industries supplying materials and components, – the minister noted. – In general, my colleagues and I have clearly defined the nomenclature that we must localize in two roadmaps included in the federal project. For pharmaceuticals, this is 186 international non-proprietary names, and for the medical industry – 368 items with different levels of prioritization.

The capacity of domestic manufacturers of polymer raw materials allows us to meet the needs of the medical industry.

– SIBUR's polymer solutions are successfully used in medicine, and the company's industry transformation that took place this year, as a result of which medicine was separated into a separate division, shows the high potential for the use of polymers and the company's desire to move in this direction, – noted Anton Prozumentov, Director of the Medicine Division of SIBUR. – The potential of the medical industry, which is highly dependent on imports, has yet to be developed (the current localization of medical products is about 30%). Today, we have developed and continue to develop new brands for which new medical product production is being created (PET-T for blood collection tubes, highly transparent PP for syringes, PC resistant to radiation sterilization for dialyzers).

Thus, in Nizhnekamsk, the company produces a new medical grade of polypropylene for the production of vials for pharmaceuticals.

– SIBUR's medical grades are quality confirmed by international standards and certificates. Today, we supply this product to domestic pharmaceutical companies that make packaging for eye drops and infusion solutions, – Prozumentov noted.

At the same time, he added that the continued import of mass-produced medical products (syringes, laboratory plastic, disposable medical linen) with good quality and insufficient capacity utilization of domestic manufacturers signals the need to introduce measures to support Russian manufacturers to ensure technological sovereignty in the medical industry.
