The liver is a vital organ and provides more than 500 body functions. As soon as failures occur in its work, a person may experience states that are not at first glance, in no way connected with this organ. We are talking about drowsiness, forgetfulness, tachycardia and so on.

If left untreated, fatty liver disease can lead to the most severe stage, which is known as cirrhosis.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is one of the most common chronic liver diseases in the world. As the name of the disease suggests, it occurs in people who do not abuse alcohol.

After several years of inflammation, the liver becomes bumpy and scarred (fibrosis). Its cells are replaced by connective tissue, which makes part of the organ inoperable. This can lead to cirrhosis.

At the initial stage of liver disease, there are no obvious signs of liver damage, such as jaundice or pain in the right hypochondrium. However, there are a number of non-specific symptoms, such as fatigue, daytime sleepiness, decreased memory and mental performance.

Cirrhosis, according to doctors, is the result of long-term, continuous damage to the liver. One of its symptoms is tachycardia. This is a sign that the liver is malfunctioning.

Tachycardia, or acceleration of the heartbeat – an increase in heart rate (HR) of more than 100 beats per minute.

Other signs of the disease in the advanced stage:

  • Severe itching
  • Yellowing of the whites of the eyes and skin (jaundice)
  • White nails
  • The fingertips become wider/thicker (gnarled fingers)
  • Swelling of the legs, ankles, feet
  • Bloating (ascites)
  • Dark urine
  • Forgetfulness, memory loss, confusion and drowsiness
  • Tremors
  • Wobbling gait, tendency to fall.
