Chickpeas are rich in protein and fiber. They can prevent colon cancer, but have contraindications.

As Dmitry Kulikov, head of the Department of Biotechnology and Food Technology at ROSBIOTECH, said, chickpeas (Turkish peas) are rich in protein, fat, fiber, and contain no more than 30% carbohydrates. It is an excellent source of minerals and vitamins.

— Chickpeas have a relatively low calorie content compared to other legumes and are the leader in the amount of essential amino acids for the body – methionine and tryptophan, – the expert noted.

Regular consumption of chickpeas helps reduce the risk of colon cancer, intestinal colic and stomach cramps.

It is necessary to remember that chickpeas increase gas formation. In people with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, liver and pancreas, as well as with pancreatitis, it can provoke flatulence, bloating and pain. Also, chickpeas are not recommended for ulcers, cystitis, gout and thrombophlebitis.

More about the benefits of chickpeas in the fight against cancer:

Chickpeas contain antioxidants such as vitamin C and various flavonoids, which help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals.

Fiber, which as mentioned above promotes gut health and may reduce the risk of colon cancer, helps maintain normal digestive function and promotes the elimination of toxins.

Chickpeas contain phytoestrogens, which may help regulate hormonal balance and reduce the risk of certain hormone-dependent cancers, such as breast cancer.

Some components of chickpeas have anti-inflammatory properties, which reduces inflammatory processes in the body associated with the development of cancer.

Symptoms of colon cancer:
