Russians are not so afraid of monkeypox

Russians are not so afraid of monkeypox
COVID-19, according to Russians, is a much more dangerous disease than monkeypox. These are the results of a sociological survey conducted by VTsIOM experts.

Less than a thousand people on our planet have become victims of monkeypox, which is spreading sluggishly in some parts of the world. According to the consensus opinion of most epidemiologists and virologists, this disease is not able to provoke the same massive outbreaks as coronavirus infection, since the primary method of infection is the contact route. That is why monkeypox prevention is being done in places with a controversial reputation, such as gay clubs and gay saunas. Experts are closely monitoring the development of the situation, and enough attention is paid to this disease in the media.

But the vast majority of Russian citizens do not consider monkeypox to be a more dangerous disease than coronavirus infection, a sociological survey has shown. 70% of respondents believe that it will not cause the same powerful outbreak as the coronavirus, 4% anxiously expect that the incidence of smallpox will eventually exceed the scale of the coronavirus, 9% are convinced that these pandemics will be comparable in scale, and 17% nothing could say about it.

Sociologists interviewed Russians by phone, about 1,600 citizens of the country aged 18 and over answered the questions. This was a random sample to ensure representativeness. With a probability of 95%, the error of this sociological survey does not exceed 2.5%, which means that a relatively objective picture has been obtained. (READ MORE) VTsIOM
