Prediabetes: what level of sugar is considered normal

glucometer
Type 2 diabetes may not manifest itself for many years. Meanwhile, the whole body and, first of all, the vessels suffer from high blood sugar levels.

It is enough to measure blood sugar levels from time to time using a glucometer, which are now sold in every pharmacy. What indicators are considered normal?

Hormons influence the level of sugar in the blood. Insulin is the main hormone that lowers glucose levels, it is produced in the pancreas. Increases the same sugar a lot of hormones. We are talking about glucagon, adrenaline, norepinephrine, glucocorticoids (cortisol, corticosterone) and others.

The norm of glucose in the blood from a finger is from 3.3 to 5.5 millimoles per liter of blood. The indicator must be measured on an empty stomach. Both high and low sugar levels are possible.

The indicator of 5.6-6.6 mmol/l is the norm after a meal, and on an empty stomach may indicate a violation of glucose tolerance. This is not diabetes yet, but a violation of insulin sensitivity that needs to be corrected, it has not turned into full-fledged diabetes.

A fasting sugar level above 6.7 mmol/l almost always indicates the presence of diabetes. Here you also need to consider whether a person is under severe stress (increases sugar) and whether he has an infectious disease or an exacerbation of his chronic illness (almost always increases sugar).

Remember that the norm of blood sugar in children different from normal adults.

Symptoms of type 2 diabetes include:

  • Frequent urination
  • Continuous thirst
  • Permanent feeling of tiredness
  • Itching
  • Cuts or wounds take too long to heal
  • Blurred vision.

The first signs of high blood sugar levels are constant thirst and frequent urination. If you get up to go to the toilet at night, measure your sugar.

A decrease in sugar below 3.3 mmol/l indicates the development of hypoglycemia, i.e. low sugar levels. The following symptoms are observed:
