Oncologist Karasev told what dangerous change in appearance can indicate the onset of cancer: armpits, neck

You need to check your lymph nodes to notice their enlargement. Oncologist surgeon Ivan Karasev spoke about this in his blog.

Particular attention should be paid to the armpit area, neck and area above the collarbone.

— When there are problems with the lymphatic system, the entire body suffers. If enlarged lymph nodes are left unattended, lymphatic system cancer may develop, — the doctor noted.

General swelling of the body and the appearance of bumps on the skin should also be a warning sign. If patients contact oncologists in time, they recover in 90% of cases, Karasev emphasized.

Cancers of the lymphatic system, also known as lymphoma, are a group of diseases that arise from cells in the lymphatic system, which is part of the body's immune system. Lymphoma is divided into two main categories:

Hodgkin lymphoma. Characterized by the presence of specific cells called Reed-Sternberg cells. It usually has a more predictable and favorable prognosis.

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Includes a variety of lymphoma subtypes, which can have different characteristics and prognoses. Non-Hodgkin lymphoma can develop more aggressively and have a more complex course.

Signs:

  • Swollen lymph nodes (most often in the neck, armpits or groin)
  • Night sweats
  • Fever
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of appetite and weight
  • Itchy skin
  • Pain in the lymph nodes
