No loss of smell or severe weakness: doctors named symptoms of new strain of covid

The incidence of coronavirus is growing rapidly, which is due, among other things, to seasonality. Rospotrebnadzor reported that there are also fatal cases.

What are the distinctive symptoms of the new strains of covid? According to doctors, those infected with coronavirus do not lose their sense of smell, and there is no total weakness.

Therapist and gastroenterologist Polina Shubina said that this year, variants of the COVID-19 strain eris and pyrol were identified, and in the summer, a new variant of omicron FliRT appeared.

— Each new strain is more virulent, that is, it is more contagious. At the same time, the disease itself is milder, without serious complications, — the doctor noted.

Symptoms:

  • nasal congestion;
  • sore throat;
  • dry cough;
  • temperature no higher than 38.5;
  • less common: nausea, vomiting, loose stools, headaches, weakness and fatigue.

Thus, it is currently impossible to distinguish covid from other viruses based only on complaints; a test is required.

Earlier, infectious disease specialist Evgeny Timakov spoke about the symptoms of the FliRT strain. According to him, the peak can be expected in mid- to late September.

The FliRT variant is characterized by:

  • severe runny nose;
  • severe sore throat, the voice may become hoarse;
  • severe cough;
  • weakness;
  • sweating.

— It is the combination of excruciating sore throat with a severe runny nose and prolonged nasal congestion that distinguishes the current version of COVID from other ARVIs, — the doctor noted.
