Some medications can cause severe harm to the liver, especially if taken without supervision. This was reported by gastroenterologist, PhD Olga Chernova.

The doctor put anti-tuberculosis drugs in first place. Treatment protocols for this disease often require taking several drugs of the same group at once, which further destroys the liver.

Antibiotics come next. Moreover, many people take them without a doctor's prescription.

— The degree of damage depends on the frequency of administration and the duration of the course. Medicines can cause both minor changes in cells and necrosis of liver tissue, — the doctor noted.

Medicines for fever and pain, such as aspirin, citramon or askofen, which contain salicylates, also have a toxic effect on the liver.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are toxic. They are taken for arthritis, rheumatism, muscle pain. Even in small doses, they increase specific liver enzymes, and exceeding the daily dosage can provoke liver failure.

Statins, which lower blood cholesterol, can have a negative effect on the liver.

What else harms the liver?

Alcohol. Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to alcoholic liver disease, including fatty degeneration, hepatitis, and cirrhosis.

Poor diet. Excessive consumption of fatty, fried, and high-calorie foods can cause fatty liver disease and other diseases.

Viral infections.Hepatitis A, B and C can seriously damage the liver and lead to chronic diseases.

Toxic substances. Contact with chemicals, pesticides and other toxic substances.
