In a Russian region, children are falling ill with dangerous pneumonia without the usual symptoms: how to suspect it

руки
In Tyumen, children have begun to get sick with an unusual pneumonia more often. Its peculiarity is that the patient may not have the usual symptoms of this disease: fever, shortness of breath and other usual complaints.

According to pediatricians, suspicions of such pneumonia arise when a child's cough does not go away for a long time.

— The fact is that with “classic” pneumonia, the doctor hears wheezing due to the compaction of the lung tissue around the site of inflammation, which has good sound conductivity. With mycoplasma pneumonia, auscultation yields scattered wheezing in moderate quantities, or there may be no wheezing at all, — Nikita Borisenkov, a pediatrician at the Filatov Clinic, told 72.RU.

Mycoplasma pneumonia usually affects children over 5 years old and adults under 40 years old. This type of pneumonia is very contagious, the infection is transmitted through air droplets.

A person may not have any symptoms of mycoplasma pneumonia other than a cough, Borisenkov noted.

At first, the cough is dry, rare, or manifests itself as a cough. As the infection develops, it becomes more frequent, annoying, and debilitating.

— It can be unproductive, lead to pain behind the breastbone and in the epigastric region, and also spasmodic or whooping cough-like. In some cases, the cough can even end in vomiting, — the doctor said.

Mycoplasma pneumonia (atypical) is an infectious lung disease caused by microorganisms of the genus Mycoplasma. They do not have a cell wall, so they can only exist in the cells of the host organism.

Pneumonia is usually unilateral and affects the lower parts of the lungs. Sometimes pleurisy joins pneumonia. Most often, mycoplasma affects the right lung. Mycoplasma pneumonia is characterized by the fact that extrapulmonary symptoms are often present.

Classic symptoms:

  • Cough. Usually dry and can be long-lasting.
  • Fever. A slight increase in temperature, although sometimes it can be high.
  • Sore throat
  • Fatigue
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest pain.
