Already this year, Russian experts will begin research on a combined vaccine against covid and influenza. This was stated in the state corporation “Rostec”, which is one of the participants in the project.
The combined influenza vaccine is the brainchild of the Nacimbio holding, Rostec and the Human Stem Cell Institute. The agreement between these structures refers to the promotion of a drug on the market that will allow people to receive simultaneous protection not only from coronavirus infection, but also from the flu due to just one injection. Confirmation of the effectiveness of the vaccine may be obtained as early as this year, as clinical trials are expected to begin in the second half of 2022.
Nacimbio already has experience in creating multi-component vaccines that have antigens to various viruses. The new drug will contain components that are effective against four strains of the influenza virus, as well as against coronavirus. Thus, the vaccine will receive a very wide spectrum of action.
Already in the third quarter of 2022, the authors of the project plan to complete the stage of preclinical studies, after which the drug can be tested on a large number of volunteers. If successful, the mass production of this vaccine will start at one of the holding's pharmaceutical enterprises. (READ MORE)
