Immunologist Kryuchkov called a sharp rise in temperature a sign of a tick bite

tick
According to Russian immunologist Nikolai Kryuchkov, Candidate of Medical Sciences, a sharp rise in temperature can be a sign of a tick bite.

In Russia, ticks can cause disease Lyme, tick-borne encephalitis and other infections. When an insect bites a person or animal, it transmits these infections.

– If you know that you have been bitten by a tick or could potentially be bitten, you need to monitor the condition. The most characteristic reactions are general malaise and severe fever. If after some short time you have such manifestations, then you need to consult a doctor and tell him that it was possible or definitely there was a tick bite,– said the immunologist “Lente.ru”.

Ticks are a carrier of tick-borne encephalitis – a severe disease of the central nervous system. They can also transmit other serious diseases, including plague, tularemia, borreliosis, brucellosis, typhus.

How can I understand that I was bitten by a tick?

  • Redness or rash near the bite site.
  • Neck ache.
  • Headache and nausea.
  • Weakness.

How quickly does a tick infect a person?

The incubation period for infection through a tick bite lasts 5-25 days, on average 1-2 weeks. There are cases when the incubation period was 1 day or 40 days.

How long does a tick crawl over the body before sticking?

Before sticking, the tick crawls over the body for 20-40 minutes, choosing the most suitable place – where the skin is thin, and the vessels are close to the surface. Ticks always crawl up, so they find them under the armpits, in the groin, on the back, on the neck and head. So the advice to examine yourself (and others) after a walk in a park or forest is justified.

Signs of tick-borne encephalitis:

  • unreasonable muscle pain;
  • fever;
  • convulsions;
  • vomiting;
  • clouding of consciousness;
  • lethargy or, conversely, chaotic movements;
  • hallucinations.
