As gastroenterologist Olga Pomoinetskaya said, patients often go to the doctor with complaints of bloating.
If gas formation occurs with most foods, then this problem cannot be ignored.
— If flatulence in the intestines is constantly present, food cannot be fully absorbed. It is the presence of prolonged bloating that is a common cause of vitamin and mineral deficiencies, the doctor warned in her blog.
This happens like this: food is not completely broken down, and gases prevent contact of food with mucous membranes. The result is incomplete absorption of food.
What foods most often cause bloating:
- legumes
- garlic
- apples/peaches/grapes
- fructose-rich foods
- flour products
- carbonated drinks
- soy products
- nuts
- all types of cabbage
- wrong combination of foods
Causes of frequent gas formation:
- Dysbacteriosis
- SIBO/CIGR (bacterial overgrowth syndrome/fungal overgrowth syndrome)
- Low acidity
- Long-term use PPIs (proton pump inhibitors)
- A lot of protein foods in the diet
- Sugar and its artificial substitutes, fructose
- Lack of enzymes that break down dietary fiber
- Poor bile flow and bile quality
