Going to sleep with the TV on is deadly
A study has shown that the habit of falling asleep with the TV on can bring about an early death. This conclusion was made by scientists from Northwestern University.

Millions of Russians fall asleep in front of the TV on the couch every night, but a new study shows that this habit can lead to premature death. Chicago researchers studied the effects of artificial lighting on the health and sleep of 552 people aged 63 to 84. Those who slept with even a small light source were more likely to suffer from diabetes, obesity and hypertension.

What threatens the habit of sleeping with air conditioning on

In this regard, the researchers urge people to avoid or minimize any amount of artificial light while sleeping. More often than not, if people sleep with artificial lighting in the room, they have a problem with insulin resistance. It occurs when cells in muscle, fat, or liver fail to respond to the hormone insulin. This problem is most often associated with the development of hypertension, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Scientists: eating in front of the TV can be dangerous

Study reveals fundamental mechanisms underlying insulin resistance . 17.8% of study participants who slept with lights on at night had diabetes. In the group of those who preferred complete darkness, there were only 9.8% of them. At the same time, in the first group, more than 40% of the participants were obese, and in the second, sleeping in the dark, only 26.7%. (READ MORE) Northwestern University
