Excess potassium, a sharp drop in blood pressure: nutritionist Karsieva told what will happen if you eat too much watermelon

абуз
Watermelons are healthy, they contain vitamins, carotenoids, potassium and other useful elements. However, it is easy to get poisoned by watermelons if they are of poor quality.

Nutritionist Sabina Karsieva listed the symptoms of watermelon poisoning:

nausea,
vomiting,
diarrhea,
discomfort or pain in the abdomen,
fever and weakness.

— If the symptoms increase, you need to call an ambulance, — the doctor noted to AiF.

Karsieva warned against excessive consumption of watermelons. They have too much sugar, which leads to a strong glycemic load, especially for those who suffer from diabetes.

In addition, an excess of the antioxidant lycopene causes nausea and diarrhea, especially in the elderly.

People with hyperkalemia may experience muscle spasms and arrhythmia, a sharp drop in blood pressure. With kidney problems, there may be severe edema.

The doctor told an interesting fact about watermelon seeds. They contain large doses of macronutrients. Contrary to popular belief, seeds cannot provoke the development of appendicitis and do not cause the development of intestinal obstruction, but on the contrary, they cleanse the gastrointestinal tract, as they are rich in dietary fiber.

Gastroenterologist Lyudmila Sukhorukova named the maximum permissible daily portion of watermelons. According to her, the average person with a balanced diet will not be able to eat more than 600 grams of watermelon or melon.
