Epidemiologist Altshtein gave an optimistic forecast for the pandemic
According to Anatoly Altshtein, another sixth wave of coronavirus cases in Russia has passed its peak. And already this month we will still see a steady decrease in the number of cases.

The sixth wave of the coronavirus, and for some countries the fourth or fifth, began to attack the planet around June. Due to well-known events, it came to Russia very late, and here an increase in the incidence has been observed since the end of July. This wave was provoked by a subline of strain Omicron BA.5. In most European countries, the surge is already coming to an end, and since the wave is somewhat late in our country, its expected decline will also come a little later.

The number of Russians by 2036: a pessimistic forecast from Rosstat

At the moment, the daily incidence in Russia is from 40 to 50 thousand per day, but a real reduction in this number can be expected already this month. Anatoly Altshtein explained that the current surge is due to a rather contagious version of covid. Omicron turned out to be the most susceptible to mutations, since it has already generated as many as 5 of its sublines, which was not observed with the previous Delta strain.

The first version of Omicron provoked a surge that began in December last year and ended in January-February. It affected Russia in January-March 2002. And now we are faced with new versions of Omicron. Altshtein believes that the start of education in schools and universities, as well as the massive return of our tourists home, will not provoke an additional surge in infections.
