Endocrinologist Pavlova: Lack of sleep leads to obesity and anxiety disorder

девушка
Endocrinologist Zukhra Pavlova said that lack of sleep leads to the development of six diseases. She refers to a study that lasted four years.

The researchers studied the data of 7 thousand people. They paid special attention to the quality of their sleep, which was assessed using special smart bracelets.

The participants wore the bracelets constantly for at least six months.

The results of the study revealed a link between how well the subject sleeps and an increased risk of developing several diseases.

Irregular sleep on a regular basis increases the likelihood of developing serious diseases. These are:

  • anxiety disorder,
  • depression,
  • hypertension,
  • obesity and hyperlipidemia.

A link has been found between sleep duration and arterial hypertension, major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. In addition, poor sleep is associated with premature aging and excess weight gain.

— If you go to bed after 11:00 p.m. and sleep much more/less than eight hours a day, you can break your biological clock, and with it, disrupt the functioning of the entire body. Then you will start to look worse and feel worse, — the doctor noted.

The amount of sleep needed for good health depends on age and individual needs. General recommendations are as follows:

  • Newborns (0-3 months): 14-17 hours a day.
  • Infants (4-11 months): 12-15 hours.
  • Children (1-2 years): 11-14 hours.
  • Preschoolers (3-5 years): 10-13 hours.
  • Schoolchildren (6-13 years): 9-11 hours.
  • Teenagers (14-17 years): 8-10 hours.
  • Adults (18-64 years): 7-9 hours.
  • Older people (65 years and older): 7-8 hours.

It is important to remember that the quality of sleep also plays a big role.
