Endocrinologist Pavlova: in which case vegetable oil can cause an increase in cholesterol

Zukhra Pavlova, an endocrinologist, said that vegetable oil, which, as you know, does not contain cholesterol, can lead to an increase in its level.

– Those who are zealous, it would seem, with healthy fats, are at risk of getting atherosclerotic plaques, she wrote on her blog.

Cholesterol is “good” and “bad”. It is believed that normal cholesterol levels for people at low risk should be below 5 mmol/L, and for people at high risk – 4 mmol/L.

High cholesterol is when there is too much of a substance called LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol in the blood. It is called “bad” cholesterol because it can clog arteries, increasing the risk of atherosclerosis.

There is also “good cholesterol” – high-density lipoproteins (HDL). They just remove cholesterol from the vascular wall and thereby clean the arteries.

According to Pavlova, some have normal cholesterol tests at the age of 60, while others are potential clients of cardiovascular surgeons at the age of thirty: they violated the ratio of cholesterol fractions.

– This often happens in violation of the metabolism of bile, torsion, kinks in the gallbladder. And even if the vessels are still in order, these deviations will certainly lead to a change in the vascular wall, – said the physician.

Most of all, the growth of cholesterol is affected by an increase in adipose tissue, followed by various inflammatory processes. They increase the synthesis of not only total cholesterol itself, but also LDL. At the same time, the body’s ability to “burn” fats and use them as energy is reduced.

And if we eat too many calories, generously adding vegetable oil to salads to make it more useful, then we get fat. And even if we don’t eat egg yolk to save ourselves from cholesterol, our own liver will synthesize it in excess, , the doctor emphasized.

Everything should be in moderation, including healthy fats, she summarized.

Symptoms of high cholesterol:

  • chest pain after physical activity;
  • palpitations;
  • pain and cramps in the legs;
  • swelling of the extremities;
  • shortness of breath;
  • increased blood pressure;
  • the formation of spider veins.
