Ural doctors saved a 12-year-old boy from a stroke, who was brought in by ambulance in a pre-stroke condition. He drank two cans of energy drinks.

The incident occurred in Rezh in the Sverdlovsk region, the press service of the regional Ministry of Health reported.

— The boy could not sleep for several nights, then he developed a severe headache, his face was distorted, and half of his body went numb. Doctors diagnosed a pre-stroke condition, the report says.

Now the child is fine, he promised that “he will not drink energy drinks anymore.”

Doctors warn: the nervous system of children and adolescents is not yet strong, and the effect of energy drinks can be unpredictable.

The caffeine contained in the drink does not provide energy; it “deceives” the body, forcing it to work almost to the limit. Wasted resources have to be replenished for a long time. In addition, energy drinks are addictive.

Pre-stroke condition is a condition that precedes a stroke; it can manifest itself with various symptoms.

  • Dizziness.
  • Feeling of weakness or numbness on one side of the body, especially an arm or leg.
  • Speech problems – difficulty pronouncing words or understanding speech.
  • Blurred vision – sudden loss of vision or blurriness in one or both eyes.
  • Severe headache.

More about the dangers of energy drinks:

Caffeine and other stimulants cause increased heart rate and blood pressure, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Drinking energy drinks, especially in the evening, can lead to insomnia and sleep disturbances.

Regular consumption leads to caffeine dependence and “withdrawal effects”.

Some energy drinks contain a lot of sugar and caffeine, which can contribute to dehydration, especially during physical activity.

Excessive consumption causes anxiety, nervousness and even panic attacks.

Mixing energy drinks with alcohol can mask the effects of intoxication, which leads to excessive alcohol consumption and an increased risk of accidents.
