Vapes and electronic cigarettes cause EVALI (E-cigarette or Vaping Product Use-Associated Lung Injury), the Ministry of Health reported. This is acute lung injury.
— The study of the disease slowed down with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic due to the similarity of the symptoms it causes, and its detection rate has stopped growing, which, however, does not reduce its danger to vaping users, — the department said in a statement.
The symptoms of the disease are similar to those of coronavirus infection:
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Chest pain
- Fever and chills
- Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Pathological changes in the lungs.
One of the first symptoms of EVALI is considered to be a disruption of the human digestive system. This is the main difference from coronavirus.
EVALI is associated with the use of vaping products containing THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) or nicotine, as well as the addition of various substances such as vitamin E acetate, which can be harmful to the lungs.
Treatment
Treatment for EVALI may include hospitalization, oxygen therapy, and other methods, depending on the severity of the condition. It is important to see a doctor if symptoms appear.
