Doctors Help Russian Woman With Huge Stone That Grew in Her Nose

blocked nose
A Russian woman came to the doctors with a huge stone that had grown in her nose – without knowing it, she complained of constant congestion and discharge.

In Tatarstan, doctors helped a woman with a huge stone that had grown in her nose. She sought medical help complaining of constant nasal congestion and other unpleasant symptoms. Further examination showed that the patient had a rare disorder – rhinolith or a stone that had formed in the nasal cavity. In this case, the formation was very large. As reported by the press service of the Tatarstan Ministry of Health, the cause of the pathology was a foreign body that had entered the nose when the Russian woman was a child. It had been in the nose for about 30 years.

The stone could have formed over many years, – said about it the head of the otolaryngology department of the Nizhnekamsk Central Regional Hospital Iskander Mubarakshin,

Mubarakshin and his colleague, ENT specialist Temurbek Khudiyarov, believed that only surgery could help the patient with a huge stone in her nose. The formation threatened to cause a perforation of the nasal septum and provoke severe bleeding. During the procedure, specialists were able to extract the rhinolith, having previously crushed it into fragments.

Doctors called this case rare. Rhinoliths are usually found in children, but as a rule, we are talking about small objects and extremely small formations that have taken root in their noses. Such a large stone that has existed in the nose for a long time is an abnormality from the category of extraordinary.

The operated patient is now at home and feels well. She will be observed by ENT doctors on an outpatient basis.

Earlier, the MedikForum.ru portal wrote that crusts or sores in the nose can be a sign of dangerous problems, including cancer.
