Israeli scientists have found out why malignant tumors can suddenly start growing throughout the body. The results of the study were published in Pronews.gr.
Experts drew attention to cases of cancer in heart patients, that is, patients with cardiovascular diseases. The connection between cancer and heart disease was discovered more than 10 years ago.
Scientists decided to find out what processes occur in the body of such patients. It turns out that an unhealthy heart can “produce extracellular vesicles (sEVs) that promote cancer development.”
Vesicles are small intracellular organelles, membrane-protected bags that store or transport nutrients. When there are problems with the cardiovascular system, they are released in too large quantities and are the culprits behind the growth of cancer cells throughout the body.
The body of patients with cardiovascular diseases becomes more vulnerable to tumor growth, scientists noted.
The relationship between cardiovascular disease and cancer is a subject of active research. What has been found:
1. Many factors that contribute to the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD) can also increase the risk of cancer. These include smoking, obesity, physical inactivity, poor diet, and high cholesterol.
2. Chronic inflammation associated with CVD can contribute to the development of cancer. Inflammatory processes can damage DNA and promote tumor growth.
3. Some medications used to treat cardiovascular diseases may affect the risk of developing cancer. For example, antihypertensive drugs.
4. Patients with cardiovascular diseases may have a higher risk of developing certain types of cancer, such as lung cancer or stomach cancer, which is associated with common mechanisms of pathology.
5. Stress and depression can also negatively affect overall health and contribute to the development of cancer.
