Doctor Kabanov: A glass of sunflower seeds is comparable in calories to a pork chop

According to nutritionist Alexey Kabanov, people who are overweight should refrain from eating seeds, especially fried ones. They are very high in calories – fried ones contain up to 700 kilocalories per 100 grams of product.

— And 100 grams of pork, for example, contains about 470 kilocalories per 100 grams. So a glass of seeds can be easily compared to a good pork chop,” the specialist noted.

Roasted seeds (and they are usually chosen) contain harmful substances that are difficult for the body to fight.

However, natural sunflower seeds are very useful: they contain a lot of unsaturated fats, which many people lack in their diet.

Despite the high calorie content, seeds are useful due to the content of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Moderate consumption of seeds can be part of a healthy diet, but it is important to watch your portions, especially if you are monitoring your calorie intake.

What other foods are high in calories?

  • Almonds, walnuts, cashews, and pistachios contain between 500 and 700 calories per 100 grams.
  • Dark chocolate (70% and above) can contain between 500 and 600 calories per 100 grams.
  • Olive, coconut, and butter have about 900 calories per 100 grams.
  • Lard and some types of sausage can contain up to 800-900 calories per 100 grams.
  • Some cheeses, such as Parmesan or cheddar, contain between 350 and 450 calories per 100 grams.
  • Avocados contain about 160 calories per 100 grams due to their high fat content.
  • Cream desserts and cakes can contain 300 to 600 calories per serving, depending on the ingredients.
  • Burgers, French fries, and other fast food dishes can contain 500 to 1,500 calories, depending on the serving and composition.
  • Carbonated drinks and energy drinks can contain 150 to 300 calories per serving.
