Doctor Ivanov named the blood sugar norm for men: 4.11–6.1 mmol/l

glucometer
Dermatovenerologist, candidate of medical sciences Roman Ivanov told what influences blood sugar levels, and what values are considered normal for men.

— If the analysis is done on an empty stomach using venous blood, then the reference values for sugar levels in adult men are 4.11–6.1 mmol/l, the doctor noted.

After 60 years, the norm may be slightly increased: 4.56–6.38 mmol/l. In children and adolescents it is lower: 3.33–5.55 mmol/l.

If the readings are higher than normal, you have hyperglycemia, which usually indicates type 2 diabetes or prediabetes.

Glucose levels can increase due to problems with the liver and pancreas, HIV infection, or hormonal imbalances.

High blood sugar contributes to the development of atherosclerosis, increases the risk of stroke and heart attack, negatively affects the retina, damages the nerves, and impairs kidney function.

Blood sugar levels are primarily affected by diet. Immediately after eating, glucose levels rise and then gradually fall. They are also affected by exercise, medications, stress, genetic factors, and hormonal balance.

Let's recall the symptoms of type 2 diabetes:

1. Frequent urination, especially at night.
2. Constant thirst.
3. Fatigue and weakness. Impaired sugar processing in the body can lead to decreased energy and a feeling of fatigue and weakness.
4. Increased appetite, constant hunger.
5. Slow wound healing.
6. Uncontrolled diabetes can cause vision problems such as blurred or decreased vision.

Causes of type 2 diabetes:

  • Obesity.
  • Lack of physical activity.
  • Poor diet.
  • Endocrinological pathologies.
  • Infectious diseases.
  • Heredity.
  • Stress.
