Do elderly summer residents need aspirin in the heat: the opinion of a cardiologist

pills
Aspirin is known for its blood-thinning properties. It became especially popular during the coronavirus pandemic.

Let's say right away that aspirin, like other medicines, can only be prescribed by a doctor. It has serious contraindications.

Now that very hot weather has set in in many regions, older people, especially summer residents who have rather heavy physical exertion, ask if they need to take aspirin in order to thin the blood, which, as you know, , thickens in the heat.

According to the cardiologist Azizkhon Askarov, most older people have comorbidities associated with atherosclerosis. He recalled that the elderly, according to WHO, are those who have crossed the 60-year mark, although this is strictly individual. .

– If in hot weather the body is dehydrated, for example, due to the fact that a person is overworked while working in a summer cottage, then lactate can accumulate in the muscles, sludge (columns) of red blood cells and platelets, this leads to thrombosis. Therefore, some people who have such diseases take aspirin to ensure the prevention of blood clots, the physician noted.
However, he stressed, aspirin alone will not help. First of all, you can’t overwork in the heat, you can’t be in an uncomfortable position for a long time. Summer residents often stand for hours over the beds in an inclination, on their haunches or on their knees, and this causes stagnation of blood in the legs, which leads to the risk of venous thrombosis.

Patients with hypertension, coronary heart disease, atrial fibrillation, heart defects, all this is strictly contraindicated.

Other opinions

Doctor and TV presenter Alexander Myasnikov noted that the Russians do not understand the danger of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin also applies to them). They are contraindicated for many, especially the elderly, as they can cause internal bleeding, provoke an increase in blood pressure, and even heart attacks and strokes.

In children, aspirin can cause Reye's syndrome, a dangerous condition that often ends in death.

Doctor and TV presenter Elena Malysheva also said that taking this drug can cause stomach bleeding.

Aspirin was recognized as a useless medicine

— Aspirin can cause stomach bleeding, it’s still a drug with risks, the doctor said.
