Dermatovenerologist Rina Urzaeva said that even the smallest papillomas can develop into cancer, so they need to be removed.
According to her, the cause of papillomas is the human papillomavirus (HPV). The doctor usually prescribes antiviral drugs and recommends removal of neoplasms.
“Due to the viral nature, the risk of infection, self-infection and degeneration into malignant neoplasms is very high,” Urzaeva emphasized.
One of the ways to remove papillomas is laser. This is a painless, bloodless procedure, the risk of recurrence is low.
Papillomas are benign tumors that occur on the skin or mucous membranes. They can appear as small growths, have a skin color or darker, appear on various parts of the body, including the face, neck, hands, genitals.
The main cause of papillomas is, as already noted, HPV infection. There are many types of HPV, and some of them cause papillomas on the skin, while others are associated with more serious diseases, such as cervical cancer.
HPV is transmitted through direct contact with the skin or mucous membranes, and can also be transmitted sexually.
Papillomas can also be removed using cryotherapy (freezing), electrocoagulation, surgery.
