Deltacron should not cause an increased surge in hospitalizations

Deltacron should not cause an increased surge in hospitalizations
Virologist Elena Malinnikova does not believe that the Deltacron strain will lead to an increase in the number of Russians hospitalized with coronavirus. Recall that this strain is a combination of Delta and Omicron.

In the coming weeks and months, the incidence of coronavirus will continue to be recorded in all regions of our planet, and it will not go anywhere until humanity acquires herd immunity. However, this is a very distant prospect, if we remember that the level of herd immunity in Russia has already fallen to 7%, and to defeat the pandemic it is required that it be at least 80%. At the same time, Elena Malinikova does not believe that the Deltacron virus will be more aggressive, since scientists do not yet have grounds for this.

She emphasizes that in countries where the level of collective immunity to coronavirus is low, and vaccination rates are also not impressive (Russia is one of them), the likelihood of new coronavirus mutations is very high. However, according to the World Health Organization, in some African countries, the vaccination rate is 14%, and we are talking about people who have received at least one injection. In the body of people who have never encountered a coronavirus at all, the level of its mutations and their threat are much higher.

The Deltacron strain does not pose a danger

Now, the coronavirus most often affects patients who have previously been ill with it or have ever received vaccinations, that is, their immunity has a memory for this pathogen. In such a case, re-infection should not be as severe as the initial one. In total, 6 cases of Deltacron have been recorded in Russia so far.
